Hello all!
ReplyDeleteThis is an additional post, although also for the sake of ES2007S! Once again I would appreciate constructive criticism or any general feedback!
Cheers
N.B
ReplyDeleteResume is 2 pages long. The 2nd page starts at "Graduated with the GCE 'O' Levels Certificate (5As & 2Bs)"
Haha, now I know where you're from. Umm, you may know my brother(s)! They were from SAS (& SAJ) too LOL.
ReplyDeleteOkay first, it's too long, 100% of the pg limit. Basically, what Brad said last session was that, inclusion of Uni edu would suffice, unless well of course, if you're from Raffles or something. haha.
Try synonyms of 'awarded' or avoid repetitions altogether. Umm, ya, I don't think I'm in a position to comment much so yups. Good job though!

Hi Titus, here are my comments:
ReplyDelete- The first three points of Summary of Personal Skills seems to be more like qualities rather than skills.
-It is better if you demonstrated your personal qualities through examples. We should 'show' rather than 'tell' in our resume, eg. "built a program to analyze stock risks in MATLAB" rather than just "proficient".
- Academic achievement is okay. For graduate studies application, O level is not necessary. Be careful if you mentioned so many activities during your secondary, but none during your undergraduate.
- I like the way you bold the keywords. However, bolding "College Colors Award" and "Platinum Award" might not help the readers much as the name of the awards are not self-explanatory.
- In general, I like your readable format. However, the content is too long (2 pages) for a resume that does not include technical details and academic publications. The content is not very strong to convince that you are suitable for graduates studies. Should include “stories” with active verbs (eg. gained strategy development skill during National Service) rather than “lists”.
Hey Mercia!
DeleteHave mercy on me I am still a freshman!!! hahahah! So I really have no achievements / internships / research projects, nor used MATLAB to model the stock market, etc to speak of in NUS. Which is why I included my secondary school stuff - plus some of the achievements are really good!
Beg your pardon! Thank you for your comments!
Cheers!
Anyway, I forgot to include the 7Cs.
ReplyDeleteYou can improve the conciseness and coherence by removing some awards. Having many awards is a good thing. However, too much award can distract the reader's attention from the main focus of the resume.
Cheers,
Mercia
Hi Titus,
ReplyDeleteOut of the 7Cs, I feel that you have 6 of them. You just lack conciseness. I know that it's hard to be concise given that you have so many achievements. Maybe you can make the font size smaller and remove the ones that are the least relevant to what you are applying for.
Hey Jian Min!
DeleteThank you for your advice! It is much appreciated! Argh...time to start scratching hard at my head again X_X
